Veja Kampo 35, V-10 35, Esps 35. Tried for a lower priced alternative these sneakers recently and I like the look and feel (size 5.5 best fits US)!

When I first got mine, I wanted to make an up-to-date post on Veja’s sustainable sneakers as their style changed a bit! While trying out new styles in their newest materials, I was pleased to find they were more comfortable and softer right out of the box than the first pair I bought in early 2020. I keep getting a lot of questions about Veja sneakers, from size to size. comfort tips, so I wanted to compare 3 popular Veja styles: Campo, V-10 and Esplar, and share a few hacks!

Veja Sneaker Style Comparison

Veja Campo Sneakers

What would I recommend as a first couple. Many people find the Campos to be the most comfortable Veja style because of the slightly higher insoles and the more support they provide. I was really impressed with these right out of the box and loved the soft pebbled leather for some support, the support and the platform sole (higher than my Esplars).

More sporty, retro-inspired styles. I first tried the V-10 a few years ago and found it very stiff and uncomfortable on the ankles, so at the time I opted for the Esplar style instead (Campo was not yet available).

I tried these one more time recently and found they were softer all over the place. The tongue and sides of the ankles go higher, so as someone with low ankles, I had to make a few adjustments for these to be comfortable (see below).

These are one of Veja’s original styles and my first pair. They have a lower profile and relatively lower platform than the Campo. If I were to make my first purchase now, I’d probably choose the Campo for the thicker pebbled leather and higher platform.

Veja Sizing – Order in EUR size, not US size

I’ve heard many people say the Veja sizing is large, but I found that it really depends on whether you’re ordering in the US or EUR size. Most brands will convert EUR 35 to US 5 on the inside label, but Veja will convert the 35 to US size 4, which I personally find inaccurate. So if you’re ordering from a site that uses EUR size, I’d stick with your regular shoe size. I’m usually a US size 5 to 5.5 on almost all brands, and I get a EUR 35/US 4 on Veja sneakers (I never get a 4 on any other brand).

Practice Tips to Make Vejas More Comfortable

The most common Veja complaint is that the tongue of the sneaker is too long and chafing. If you’re running into this issue, here are three easy fixes:

  • Leave the top 2 holes unlaced. This gives the language more room and flexibility to move. Also, I think it looks better!
  • Move the tongue to one side. A lot of people do this, but I prefer the third method.
  • Push the tongue in under the laces. Try this if the fixes above don’t work for you. It’s harder to describe, so check out my latest Instagram video for a quick demo of this tip!

For those with low ankles (like me), you may find that the sides go too high and rub painfully against the bottom of your ankle bone. I shared my cheap hack this postbut an addition heel lift it can give your shoes a little more height than you need to solve this problem.
