Create Your Own Dress Formula

Once you have a set of clothing photos, you may start to notice some patterns. You may find that you’re more likely to wear a blazer with jeans or a striped T-shirt with colorful shoes. These then become your outfit formulas.

Most outfits can be broken down into a formula of their essential elements.

Basic + Interest + 3rd Part/statement + Accessories

Here are three examples of one of my dress formulas in action

Pants + Knitwear Top + Jacket + Accessories + Half Boots

Go for the outfit formula: Jeans + knit top + Ankle Boots + Jacket + flashy jewelry

Jeans/Pants and a knit top with a jacket – these are the basics, then I added some bold jewelry or embellishments along with some ankle boots. I chose to use color in this outfit to create interest with cobalt blue jeans and a hot pink knit top, then paired the color with a neutral moto jacket that connects it to snakeskin boots and a flashy necklace. Snakeskin boots add some pattern to the outfit for an added focal point.

Go to outfit formula - Jeans + knit top + blazer + statement brooch + ankle boots

You can see this uses a blazer instead of a moto style jacket, and since there isn’t much color in the outfit, I added a patterned top, so the pattern creates a more interesting look than I wore a plain gray knit. Also, my boots blending with my pants color column for longer legs and a slimmer look. The pale blue blazer adds a touch of color and the flower brooch adds a great pop of color. focus with its bold color.

Go to our clothing: jacket, pants, knit top and boots

For this version of my outfit formula, instead of jeans, I chose a denim jacket with small stars printed on it and large sequin stars that I added as additional embellishments. I decided to be involved in everything. mixing patterns in this outfit – striped knit top, checked trousers and ankle boots with butterfly embroidery. Since there are so many patterns going on already and there is also some use of color with the blue of the jeans and the pink of my top, I chose a more mixed necklace in the same pink color as my top because I don’t need a necklace. additional hero in this outfit.

Go to the dress formula - mixing patterns

Putting together three subtle patterns – lines, squares, and stars is pretty straightforward as they are all angular patterns.butterfly ankle boots

These butterfly ankle boots repeat colors already in the outfit instead of adding something new. A flat boot could work just as well here. This is one of the biggest benefits knowing your best colors and having a more exclusive color palette Colors naturally work well together in gorgeous harmony, making it much easier to mix and match your outfits to create new outfits (all of which make you look great).

Here are some examples of clothing formulas you can use

  • Jean + Patterned Blouse + Jacket + Ankle Boots
  • T-shirt + Skirt + Statement Necklace + Ballet
  • Shorts + Buttoned Shirt + Hat + Sandals
  • Striped T-Shirt + White Jean + Colorful Shoes
  • Floral Dress + Denim Jacket + Half Boots + Oversized Sunglasses

The formula is just the starting point. Play with variations of the formulas. A button-down shirt for ankle boots or a patterned blouse for tall boots. For more information, read How to Put together a Gorgeous Outfit in Minutes
