Monday Thoughts: Eyes, Handbags and Clothes

Our weekend was stormy, rainy and cold! I dragged myself to the gym on Saturday and found it easier to do as I was wearing one of my sneakers. new workout clothes. Some may find it shallow that a new outfit helps motivate me to put on my sneakers and hit the gym, but it did, and that’s okay. We should all do things that help us feel good and take care of ourselves as best we can.

My ocular rosaceam has been on my mind a lot lately because its last flare-up didn’t go away with the eye doctor’s final plan of attack. I use my heated eye pad at night, I wash my eyes with it custom cover wipes, using preservative-free eye drops, adding flaxseed to my diet, etc. etc… but they still burn, I feel like they have gravel in them and they are very red. I know there are other protocols to try because I’ve been reading government research studies on other successful treatments. I’m going to meet with him today to ask about some of these other treatments and see what else we can do.

I’m one of those people who does a lot of reading and Google searches on topics rather than blindly (bad wordplay) heeding a doctor’s advice. This probably saved my life when my melanoma was not diagnosed by several dermatologists years ago. I’m sure it drives some of my doctors crazy and that’s fine with me. Frankly, there is a lot I will never know or understand about the medical conditions I leave to my doctors. Ocular rosacea is not one of them because there is a great deal of literature on the subject.

Here are a few outfits I wore last week.

I wore this for a trip to the eye doctor, then a trip to Nordstrom. I’m glad I grabbed this Loft single-breasted trench coat last year because double-breasted options seem to be more common. I prefer the simplicity of single-breasted styles for many reasons, not least because they look good on or off. I found a few similar here and here. Just me turtleneck and pants they look black in this photo, but one of my new favorite neutrals is charcoal. Snake-patterned booties, Dr. It’s several years old and very comfortable by Scholls. I found similar here and here. My shoulder bag was a gift to myself at a duty-free shop on my way home from a trip to Japan with my daughter a few years ago. It’s sleek but the camera bag shape holds a lot, but it’s still very compact. There are many cheaper options here, hereand here.

I did a ton of errands today and it was raining cats and dogs. The light is not good here but I am wearing black jeans :). A post is coming up about some of my favorite jeans brands, and this is one of them. Many luxury jeans don’t need to go in the dryer, but mine inevitably do, so they have to last and these mom jeans Have. I accidentally ruined two Paige jeans by running them through the dryer. I decided to save myself from heartbreak only buying jeans that fit my laundry preferences. The sweater and booties are burgundy, the shirt is black with an ivory animal print. The sweater is sold out but I found similar ones here and here. My Munro booties are super comfortable and great in the rain, which is just what I need this time of year.

Here I am exercising with my new best friend…a bracelet To try to stop De Quervains Tenosynovitis on its way. Immobilizing my thumb and wrist for 4-6 weeks is our current protocol to hopefully calm the inflammation and prevent the need for surgery. I was shopping for bags today and met up with my shopping buddy for coffee. I’m wearing a black Vince cashmere sweater from the Black Friday sale. Yes, Vince cashmere is softer and worth the price. I love and wear it too Quince $50 cashmereand mine Nordstrom brand cashmere. I am an equal opportunity cashmere lover :). I wear these comfy Spanx pull-on pants and my Birdies shoes.

I have this Kate Spade bag is in color-block neutrals black, taupe and cream and I love how versatile it is. Not sure if I want the same bag again in a different color. I’m looking for a smaller wallet, but I’m still not sure how useful a small purse would be for me, so my search continues.

I worked from home today, then went to crab bait in the evening. I wore indigo color cotton sweater and slim pants From the Talbots, with me new woven Birds. Our weather is so rainy and dirty that I couldn’t wear them outside, but they got used to wearing them at home. They actually didn’t need a lot of breaking (10 minutes) because the woven leather softened my bunion a bit, so they’re really comfortable. I’ve debated over the colors of these shoes and I’m glad I chose this two-tone blue that will look great this spring.

This has been a pretty rambling post, but I’m seeing a theme 🙂 The few extra pounds I’ve been sporting make me feel more comfortable in stretch pants and I often reach for a color column.
