What is Art Deco Style?

First, I thought it might be helpful to have a general inspiration board – all images Wikipedia.

I absolutely adore the Art Deco style, so this was a lot of fun. I realized that some of the things I thought were Art Deco, like Tiffany lamps and curved lounge chairs, were actually Art Nouveau. (Actually, Art Deco was a response to Art Nouveau – compare Paris metro entranceswith sharp curves, geometric lines and sharp angles, let’s say Chrysler Building.)

I saw some places on the internet It looks like Frank Lloyd Wright’s first work, calling it Art Deco, but according to better sources grew up of the Arts and Crafts movement (before it became the Prairie School). I generally think of Art Deco as a pretty dark color scheme with straight lines, geometric shapes and lots of gilded detail and saturated jewel tones.

How to Add Art Deco Style to Your Partition or Other Shared Office Space

You may feel like you’re limited here because so many Art Deco pieces are HUGE – pieces of furniture! crazy wallpaper patterns! But there are lots of little things you can do to bring an Art Deco style to your room.

Some easy stuff: file folders and file owners. Pencil cups. Bookmark. If you have some wall space, there are a ton of affordable Art Deco artworks you can find on Etsy and Society 6. If you really want to go big, you can cover any bulletin board with an Art Deco wallpaper or poster and then use them as usual.

Another fun idea: If you’re someone who prints labels for folders, folders, and other items, you can always download some Art Deco fonts. This package from Etsy only 7 dollars. Prefer free? Google fonts center of attraction And Poiret One both have some Art Deco elements.

How to Add Art Deco Style to Your Private Office

If Your Office Already Has Dark Wood Furniture

If you have a simple corporate office with dark wood furniture, you’re already on your way – I find Art Deco to be too heavy, dark style most of the time. In this case, I would try to bring in gold pieces to brighten up the space, like a sunburst mirror or some other wall decor.

Next to your desk, I’d go with an Art Deco-inspired lamp, pen holder, file folders, file holders, and maybe even labels in a custom font as mentioned above. On the visitor side, I would add a few cushions or geometric patterns, bookends or picture frames, and maybe even an acrylic tray and a cushion. (If you’re the one holding alcohol in your officethere are a ton of beautiful Art Deco jugs out there.)

If you really want to be stylish, you can bring a custom desk chair or visitor chair, or even buy an Art Deco sofa or chaise longue. If you’re the kind of person whose office furniture needs to let you take a nap on occasion, I’d prefer an LC4-inspired chaise lounge over a sofa – they just seem more comfortable.

Another thought: you can add curtains or window film in an Art Deco-inspired pattern – the window film is pictured in the inspiration photo, but there are a ton of options.

Is Your Office Corporate White or Gray?

If your office isn’t already dark and you’re working with corporate white or gray, I’d stick with some of the above advice for cabinetry. You may also want to bring Hollywood Regency inspiration with your Art Deco – silver instead of gold, fuchsia/sapphire instead of emerald/rust, etc. (These are just a few ideas…)

How to Add Art Deco Style to Your Home Office

As always, you can have a lot more fun with your home office. Wall paper! Geometric overlay! Furniture! Architectural features like columns! You can do this!

If you are buying large office furniture, you can definitely go for one of the gorgeous Art Deco desks out there. ( picture one It’s from Anthropologie and it’s $1698.)

Another idea: You can replace or upcycle some old furniture to add inlays (for example, Etsy) or painted features (this article upcycling There are some great DIY ideas inspired by Art Deco) or go for dark furniture in general.
