abercrombie petite navy blue work pants

Back in September, I shared one of my favorite finds all year – these are wide leg trousers (your reading in my opinion) that got me excited to wear pants again! With a stylish and tailored look, yet comfortable stretch fabric and an elastic back waist, these are perfect for those who want a pant to switch between casual and business looks. I wanted to share a few updates to these fan favorite pants, as well as a comparison with their newer pants. straight leg casual pants.

PS – Abercrombie has just had a 30% discount outerwear sale! Here are a few little friendly styles I own or have tried over the years:

  • blanket shawl. Works great – read on in my opinion with more photos. Many reviews speak of being surprised at the lack of lining, but you can see in the product photo that this is an unlined, double-faced style jacket. This deliberately unlined style has been back in recent years, but for a lined jacket, check out the bottom two styles listed!
  • blanket outdoor jacket. To see my try If you’re looking for a button-down jacket without a belt.
  • Wool blend dad coat in 10 colors. One of the core floors that has been around for ~5 years! Straighter cut.
  • Wool-blend Mod jacket. It’s a newer style with a different collar than dad jackets, but the overall fit is very similar. This is just the right size for me and comes in a creamy sherpa too! I tried on the black and white plaid and I’m returning it because I don’t think I’ll get much wear out of this model, but I wanted to show off the xxs petite pattern on me.
  • Vegan leather mini pouf. Look at me and it comes in smaller now Ultra Mini version.

Updates for the original Wide Leg Trousers

The original wide-leg trousers are still for sale herebut there is newer product page selling the same pants with a few updates. The original wide-leg pants that many of us had were letter-size (XXS – XXL), but the updated style now has numerical sizes like denim (23 – 32). Moving from letter to numeric size, there are now 15 sizes to choose from (rather than the original 7 sizes) to find the perfect fit.

Another update is that they now offer Extra Short inseams in certain colors – good news for those who still find the Short too long!

Wide Leg Trousers and Casual Straight Trousers

I found the original wide-leg trousers with letter sizes to be small relative to the waist, while comfortable straight-leg trousers look looser in comparison. I should have guessed this based on the appropriate keywords “comfortable” and “customized”! My waist measures about 25 inches and is a XS Short with the original wide-leg trousers attached to my waist, 24 Short on comfortable straight-leg trousers for the same fit.

Custom wide leg (beige) vs comfortable straight leg (navy blue). The 25 Short has a noticeably looser cut at the waist than the XS Short

Both models feature the same comfortable fabric and zippered front and partially elasticated back waist. Another point to note about straight-leg trousers is that the zipper style differs according to the color. Some colors have a more trendy, angled zipper on the front, while other colors like black and navy have a regular zipper.

Personally, I still prefer wide-leg trousers as I like the drama of a looser fit, but I’m wondering if in a few years a straight cut would better hold up to the test of changing tastes and trends. Check out the wide-leg trousers style here I’m on my sneakers.
