Where to eat when visiting Boston

This week my “baby” brother came to visit us in Boston before he set off to start college in North Carolina. He’s self-proclaimed foodie, so we had him eat in town for a few days!

I love these for a casual and relaxed outfit that always feels classic and together linen shorts paired with a comfortable fit button up shirt (white or striped) or a more suitable top like that sweater rib tank (pictured below). These shorts are a great custom-fit length and also come with a fabric belt. Size 00 measures 12.6 inches across the waist. I also got the Sandshell color which is on extra sale at checkout!

Check out our page for more local recommendations, including places I regularly eat at or order from. Boston Visitor GuideI try to keep it updated often!

Breakfast: Mike and Patty’s

Multiple locations

A local favorite for breakfast sandwiches! They’re best known for their Grilled Crack sandwich with 3 types of melted cheese, but my usual is Fancy with fried eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, avocado, crunchy onion chunks, and homemade mayo. They also offer a vegan sandwich with Just Egg. For a more low-key/smaller but also delicious breakfast sandwich, we’re taking eggs + cheese with sausage on an English muffin. Billy’s Sub-Store.

What we get: Fancy or Grill Grack for more indulgence

Coffee + Dessert: jonquil cafe

Newbury Street

These sweets in this cafe are small works of art and they run out later in the day. While you pay extra for the visual, it tastes just as good! I got the apple confit, caramel, cream cheese, chocolate sponge cake and apple stuffed with crunchy chips. There is outside seating and the decor is cute with extra seating downstairs.

What will I get: Any of the beautiful desserts!

Lunch: ORALE Mexican Grill

Cambridge

They have a variety of tacos and elotes here – all were good, but the birria tacos definitely stood out as the best we’ve ever ordered, and better than any of the other Mexican spots we’ve tried this dish. The crusts were perfectly cheesy and crispy without being too greasy, and the boiled meat inside was tender and complemented the dipping nicely. I recommend eating them on the spot (rather than delivery) if possible!

Junk food: North Side Sushi

north end

Quick bite while wandering around Faneuil Hall / Government Center / North End area. This is literally a takeaway counter in a hole in the wall with no seating, but you can walk to the nearby Greenway and enjoy the breeze. I don’t usually get their nigiri here as the sushi rice is sweeter than I would like for the nigiri, but we usually get the maki plates for the guests or the hand rolls usually filled with fresh fish.

What will I get: Maki plates or hand rolls. I usually make it for yellowtail scallions, spicy salmon or scallops!

Nice place for brunch/lunch, dinner or just a drink. Gorgeous interior and rooftop view of Boston public garden!

Lobster Roll + Soup: salty girl or Neptune Oyster

Back Bay (Salt Girl) // North End (Neptune)

The photos in this post are from Neptune Oyster, a classic and iconic Boston restaurant, but I have to say that I personally prefer Saltie Girl by Newbury Street.

Neptune Oyster is more of a cramped (we shared a table with another couple) small place, no reservations so sometimes you have to queue for hours and Saltie Girl takes reservations and has a larger (and cute!) dining area. I find the lobster roll at both restaurants both good, but for me the clam chowder is better at the Saltie girl, with a creamier consistency, topped with clam chunks and fried clams for texture.

Late Night + Drinks: sojuba

Fenway / Kenmore

Came here for Korean food and drinks after switching to a “fit for night” outfit (IYKYK from my Instagram stories: ) The original wings with honey mustard were perfectly crispy. Everyone talked about how good the crunch was and how we should try the soy garlic flavor next time! We got the Boodae Jeongol / army stew and garlic noodles, but I have to say, Nick’s Garlic Noodles They are just as good if not better!
