The creator of this amazing platform, The Curvy Fashionista Marie Denee, asked a great question on Twitter and it got me thinking. I went down the rabbit hole, had to write about it and share it with readers.
Why does everyone say rough/faux leather vegan leather? And if you’re wondering yes, faux leather and vegan leather are the same thing as a high-end brand name change. Let’s get to the reasons.

According to this webster Plither is a plastic fabric made to look like leather. It is also called synthetic leather, which has a high cost. Faux leather was created in 1920 at the US Rubber factory in Naugatuck, Connecticut. It didn’t become popular until the 60’s and 70’s when it was used as a shoe.
When did the name change actually take place?
Whatever you call faux leather, pleated, vegan leather, it became popular in the 2010s. “Pleather” always has the bad representation of being a cheap leather imitator. Doctrix Snow said it best,
When people made a profit, he realized the fact that ‘vegan leather’ a) sounds more ethical, b) is less sticky, and c) is worse than real leather.

The truth is that vegan leather sounds sexier than grainy or faux leather. It actually makes us, as consumers, feel like smart shoppers, as we think about the environment even though it is extremely harmful to the environment. Plastic cannot be recycled. The best way is to convert unnecessary or unwanted waste materials, also known as creative reuse.
The rebrand is focused on being environmentally friendly, cruelty-free, and ethically sound. With many consumers being vegan and health conscious, the word pleat has been completely abandoned by most brands. The aim is to engage “conscious consumers” without the high price tag.
Artificial leather “Vegan” care
Since there are many of us who love faux leather clothes, including myself, here are some cleaning care tips to make your clothes last longer. Please read your care label labels before doing anything. If the garment does not have a lining, most of the maintenance can be done at home, you may want to visit your local cleaners.
- Remove stains with a microfiber cloth dampened with warm water.
- Apply oils such as coconut, olive or olive oil to prevent peeling. baby oil. It’s not nice to break the faux leather
- Always line and air dry. Keep away from any kind of heat.
- If you encounter a hole, you can buy a kit. HERE

Whatever the name, faux leather isn’t going anywhere. Fashion is practiced. Vegan leather is used in luxury bags, shoes and even underwear. When shopping for faux leather, think about the box, look for color, fun silhouettes, and try new things. My favorite faux leather items are my green and red motorcycle jackets. I have a pleated faux leather skirt that I plan to wear this season.
Let’s chat:Have you noticed the rebranding of Pléther? What do you think about this ethically? Will this prevent you from purchasing the battery? I look forward to discussing this further with you.
Until next time happy shopping!!!
