Visit Murphy’s and Giant Sequoia Trees

[ad_1]

I will freely admit that I am a tree hugger. Even at the cost of barking and ‘nature’ messing up the front of my new sweater. we got it on sunday A short trip to visit Murphy’s and the giant sequoia trees. Murphy’s is a cute little town but the main goal was to soak up nature. These trees are gorgeous and take your breath away.

Murphy’s is a charming historic town located in the heart of California Gold Country. Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the hotel is just 14 miles from Calaveras Big Trees State Park, which features two giant sequoia groves, the largest trees in the world. The town is a block full of quaint boutiques, wine tastings and a never ending atmosphere.

victoria inn at murphy's house

we stayed Victoria Inn, on Main Street which is smack dab in the middle of everything. We walked around the city without anyone getting up on Monday morning and enjoyed the silence. It’s packed here on the weekends, but it’s pretty quiet as some restaurants are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. I would recommend asking for a room above the driveway as the courtyard can be quite noisy in the evening.

small building

Everything was decorated and lit up for the holidays, which made me rack my brain wondering where we hid our holiday decorations from last year. The shops were playing Christmas Carols and they looked so cute.

All the other shops look like wine tasting places, but I’m sure it’s a bit of an exaggeration 🙂 We were drinking tea and coffee for our morning expedition.

Visiting giant sequoias

I couldn’t take many pictures of the trees because I was too drunk. My husband took pictures but I was just immersed in the experience. We walked on the road, we read the history of trees, and I was reminded once again how small we were.

Unlike the empty plastic water bottle I saw being thrown on the North Grove road, these trees have been here for thousands of years. I won’t expose my husband to the words he’s heard about careless, selfish people throwing garbage, but it’s enough for him to say I’m disappointed and pissed off.

The weather was warmer than I expected, so the coat I brought was never worn, but I needed a warm vest for the evenings. Tuesday I went in and out of a few small boutiques and did my best to support the local economy. I found these slippers and decided they were too cute to leave the store. Could I buy them online for a few dollars cheaper? Sure, but I like to support small businesses whenever I can.

Sutter Creek was a fun stop on the way home and geared up for the holidays even more. These quaint little towns are fun to visit any time of year, but even more fun during the holidays.

The temperature drops as the sun goes down, so you need to bring layers and be ready to come together. I made some nice trousers for dinner, but we’ve found that jeans are perfectly acceptable anywhere. Murphy’s is a great place to spend the weekend and if you get a chance I highly recommend seeing these amazing trees.
