Sure, we all know what it is wardrobe essentials for work professional women should have in their closets, but if you’re buying for the first time or changing one you’ve worn to the floor, finding just the right incarnation in stores can be a pain. Inside “Hunting,We search the stores for an essential product that every woman should have.

If you’re trying to look more flashy, one of the classic looks is the layered look for sweaters. Seems like a simple idea in theory – button-down shirt + sweater, BOOM, right? But then you run into issues with static cling and stack.

One of the classic ways to solve this problem is the unassuming fake collar, namely the dickie. (Sometimes spelled dickey!) Each generation seems to be reinventing these, so I thought I’d round up a few that are out there right now.

What are Dickies?

If you’re not familiar with Dickies, these are what can best be described as faux collars – they’re more than a clip-on collar, but not a full shirt. In general, they usually have a partial shoulder and some kind of elastic strap “sheath” to keep everything secured and lying flat on your chest.

(Don’t be confused as we’re in the crop top era – these are immortality crop tops. Do not wear them by yourself. Not specifically to work with, but really, I would advise against it anywhere; a dickie will never look as cool as a real shirt with an open back.)

What Are the Benefits of Wearing Dickies to Work?

Wearing a penis or fake collar with work clothes actually has a number of benefits. For example, they are much less bulky than blouses and much easier to arrange things neatly. Since you’re unlikely to spill food or sweat on the fake collar (although this depends on the type of tool), you’ll be less likely to dry clean them.

Cost is another big advantage—everything on this Hunt is under $100.

Plus, they generally fit whatever size you are – and you can even keep them at the office if you want to instantly make your outfit feel more flattering.

A Final Note on Finding Dickies for Workwear

I’ll note this is a total Hunt because haha, everyone hates the term dickie. Which, hey, 1000%. But searching for “leash” on their website… doesn’t help much. (If you try to go that route, make sure you don’t end up with a real dog collar. Sigh.)
