We featured some of our favorites last year “Mom and I” classes are over at Momtastic and now we have a few more not-to-miss options to add to the list.
Some require a semester commitment, while others are drop-in, each with its own perks. Obviously, visits are great for flexibility, but for those that require commitment there is a thriving friendship between parents as well as children. Early childhood is a very unique time and it’s great for parents and caregivers to develop a support community around them, and many of these classes offer the opportunity to do just that.
Shababa and Parkbench at 92NY
I cannot recommend each of these classes enough. Shababa (a mix of “sababa” meaning “cool” in Hebrew and Shabbat) is an option to visit on the weekend (which is very few). It is a mix of interactive activities and music. This is great for the whole family and is one of the few classes where I see dads as well as moms. I still admire the care and creativity given to this class. 92NY also offers park benchencourages independent play, but also has a “snack time” where children sit around a table to eat/drink. Finally, there is the bubble/music game as well as the art clock. This requires a semester commitment, and most kids in the classroom stick with it from their first year of infancy until they start preschool.
Baby Love Sabbath at Chabad Sutton
Chabad Sutton’s Baby Loves Sabbath another class that amazes me. If you’re looking for something to keep your kids entertained for a long time, this class 1 hour plus is a good option. It starts with making challah (and delicious chocolate challah), followed by crafts, music, and bubbles. Songs and themes change every week. If you commit for a semester (as most people do) there are drop-off options as well as a discount. It couldn’t be a more fun, loving and welcoming environment and the thought and attention shown to the class is heartwarming.
À Petits Pas at fi:af
Having spent 13 years at The Lycee Francais in New York, I know the value of a French education. Even though my kids won’t be going to a French school, I love the idea of introducing them to language and culture (not to mention discipline and etiquette) and fi:af allows just that. Petits Pass. Semester class includes free play, art, singing, snack time and themed learning (such as weather or days of the week). It’s also a sweet and friendly environment for parents and caregivers to connect with each other.
Art Farm
Art Farm It is a unique “city farm” that offers both delivery and commitment options (there is also a free trial). There are several types of classes, including those that combine story time, music, art, and more, but they all involve animals in some way. Stone, Apron and AnimalsFor example, it involves learning a new animal each week. It includes songs and stories about animals, an art project, and each lesson ends with free time for caregivers and children at The Art Farm’s city farm where you’ll see rabbits, reptiles, fish and more.
Craft Studio
Craft Studio is a colorful arts destination (they also sell great gifts and play games for toddlers and toddlers). You can stop by to paint or attend an art-themed class that ends with disco lights, music and dancing. With classes ranging from 18 months to 5+, this is a great place for the whole family.
