As September approaches, I’m reviewing my most worn summer pieces and planning easy ways to swap them out for next season. For example, Express non-stick top and Everlane cheeky jeans Ecru has been a bestseller here for the past few months, and as we acclimate to cooler weather we’ve created a sturdy “essential outfit” that’s easy to cover. With this basic outfit in mind, here’s a list of 10 wardrobe staples to create different smart casual looks throughout the seasons using minimal pieces!
1. Off White Straight Jeans

I took 26 inches of inseam and folded the edges under 2 inches.
The soft cream color on these is perfect for multiple seasons to wear, plus the solid wash can pass as chino and can be used in both casual and smart casual business wardrobe. The high waist straight leg cut is timeless and the color feels fresh in the summer and has a cozy winter white feel for the colder months without looking overly white.
2. Raised Black Tee
Wearing: Express non-stick top (to see in my opinion)
It’s just an easy top, without the fuss of getting in and out throughout the day. The lightweight shoulder pads on this one also add some structure and elevate the look from a basic black tee.
3. Polished belt
Wearing: Celine belt sz 70 (same as us EP belt in xxs)
If you tend to wear a lot of solid colors and basic pieces, a sharp belt can really elevate the outfit.

4. Neutral pumps
I’m wearing our Arranged Pieces thumb opening, but a simple and stylish neutral pump like this one Ann Taylor suede pumps or these Sam Edelman leather heels Great options if you want to have just one pump in your wardrobe. I own several pairs of nude heels, and these remain two of the styles I reach for the most!
5. Striped Sweater
I’m wearing Banana Republic upstairs (similar), but also check Alex Mill (Wear 2 ways) and Sezane.
A striped knit is a great piece to add to the mix because it adds elements of pattern and texture whether you wear it draped over the shoulders or tied at the waist. Or pair it with straight-leg jeans for an effortless casual outfit.
If you’re willing to spend a little more to get 1 or 2 high-quality knits, I’ve found my Sezane Leontine + Jazz sweaters worth the splurge. From the semi-large, droopy cuts to the button details and knit fabric, everything feels thoughtfully designed and well-made. Alex Mill also makes a nice chunky striped knit that can also be worn as a button-down cardigan.
6. White Sneakers
A practical and stylish pair of clean white leather sneakers are perfect for everyday errands, more casual workplaces or travel.

7. Trench Coat
Trench coats in my wardrobe have been MVPs’ terms for style longevity, and they’re transporting me from Spring to Fall. Many of my visors that I bought 5 or even 10 years ago are still wearing down, but I’ll say the longer ones are now more pulled-together with a looser fit rather than a slim one. 8. Loafers
Mine Sam Edelman loafers continues regular wear and is a very comfortable and affordable alternative to Gucci Princetown loafers. Pair them casually with jeans or dress them up for a casual workplace.
9. Personalized Jacket
This Mango coat is from a few years ago, but they’re a very similar style as part of the newest Autumn collection. Coats in sizes XXS and XS tend to pass quickly when Autumn arrives, so I suggest you shop early if you have an eye for something.

10. Fine shank booties
Thin legs (like these Blondo booties) or “sock-style” booties that wrap around the ankle better. Slimmer styles like this go best under straight or wider jeans and trousers.
