Shorts for Women Over 50 – beauties first

I don’t wear shorts often, but I know many of you do, so I tried a few brands to get an idea of what’s out there. I thought it would be helpful to also include some styling tools to help you wear over 50 shorts in the most flattering way this summer.

I see much longer Bermuda length shorts on the shelves these days. They’re great for women who want extra leg veins or loose skin coverage. Longer shorts are easy to wear and can be worn with a small wedge or heel. These polished shorts It is a cotton/spandex blend and is available in eleven colours. Made of stretch cotton twill with belt loops and front slash pockets.

These are navy blue and white gingham “perfect” shorts, petite with 9 1/2″ inseams. I prefer this slightly shorter length for myself. The more legs you see, the longer your legs look.

These comfortable chino shorts are made from fresh blue and white 100% cotton seersucker. They have 7″ inseams in normal and plus and 6″ inseams in petite. It has fly and button closure and front slash pockets. See-through fabric is such a classic summer fabric that it looks great with shorts.

**PULL-ON TWILL SHORTS size S is missing**–

These corduroy shorts have a causal vibe in a cotton/lyocell/linen blend. This pull-on style is available in 3 colors. Inseam is normally 6″ and plus and 5″ in petite.

Shaping tip – The shorter the inseam, the flatter your shoe should be. Nude or pale-colored sandals and wedges will help elongate your leg. The longer the shorts, the shorter and narrower your legs will appear.

Ann Taylor Shorts

These pleated shorts are linen/rayon blend fully lined. The belt is made of braided fabric. This regular has a 6″ inseam and the petite has a 5″ inseam.

Shaping tip – Pleated shorts have a wider leg opening, which can be more forgiving for ladies with thicker hips. If you have very thin legs, you may prefer to avoid them as they will accentuate how narrow your legs are. Pleated shorts are fun to wear with a lightweight blazer and wedges for a flattering look.

These boardwalk shorts come in pleated or regular (straight) and regular and petite lengths. They are made of polished cotton with 3% elastane. They come in four colors, sizes 00-18. Inseam normally 11″ and 10″ in petite.

These shorts are a cotton/polyester/rayon/spandex blend with a denim style and 9″ non-rolled inseam. They come in six colors, sizes 24-34.

Shaping tip – Pant cuffs shorten the look of your legs and this is even more true with shorts.

These Wit and Wisdom shorts are a super soft denim cotton blend with plenty of stretch. It has 15″ inseams and is available in sizes 24-34. The cuff is easily folded up a few more times to adjust the length to your liking. Although I almost always prefer to tuck tops in, I prefer it open so that the top and shorts don’t look the same length. 50/ The 50 distribution is never as pretty as 1/3-2/3.

NYDJ Shorts

I thought these were long shorts when I took them off the shelf, but found that they looked more like pedal pushers at my height. They have 13″ inseams, which is no shorts on me. The hem has a slit on the outside so you can’t easily tuck them in. If you’re pretty and tall, or if you like the below-the-knee look, they’re great.

Chico’s Shorts for Women Over 50
