Sézane Petite Sweater Reviews: Gaspard, Léontine, Trudy

best sesane sweater review

I’m working with Sézane on an IG project and wanted to take a deeper dive into the sweaters I’ve tried (including 2 styles I bought a while ago and still LOVE)! I almost always curl my sweaters, and I know it can be hard to tell how a piece actually fits once it’s “shaped”, so I’ve included some full-length, open-cut photos below.

If you’re new to Sézane, the Paris-based brand has started selling vintage clothing and is focused on creating “high-quality, perfectly-cut pieces that can be worn forever.” Many of its pieces use organic cotton, responsibly sourced wool or recycled materials. They have free international shipping + free returns for the US on orders over $200 (and the packaging is very nice).

sizing

Sézane sizes start at xxs for knits and T-shirts, 0/2 for blouses, 0/2 for bottoms, and 23 for jeans. I’ve tried various bottoms and they seem designed for a petite frame, so they don’t fit me either (skirts work better than pants though). I’ve had the most success with classic striped t-shirts and xxs knits, and I found the prices to be worth it for the tall closet staples I could reach each year.

one. Gaspard Cardigan

The Gaspard Cardigan, which I added recently, is made of an alpaca / mohair blend, one of Sézane’s basic pieces, and has taken on many colors over the years. If your preference is cotton or wool / mohair / alpaca fibers while browsing knitting on the Internet, I pay attention to the composition details. The latter will have a fluffier hand feel and more itch factor compared to cotton, so I sometimes wear a tank top or a tank top. The Trudy sweater below is also a mohair/merino wool blend, while the others in this post are cotton.

The Gaspard is a classic cardigan updated with dropped shoulders and slim sleeves for effortless French chic. Well made, pearlescent buttons and grosgrain ribbon covering the button fly for durability. I like that it can also be worn backwards with no buttons on the front – see how it looks My IG video!

The brand recommends hand-washing each of these sweaters in cold water. This may be an unpopular approach, but I wash all my sweaters very rarely and only when they are really dirty. Over-washing clothes causes unnecessary wear and tear, and I can often air my sweaters outside to freshen them up.

2. Trudy Jumper

This sweater is a fresh try and is a mohair/merino wool blend with a fluffier texture with a similar feel to the Gaspard cardigan. The design is unique with the asymmetrical button-down collar, you can wear it closed as a low turtleneck or open it up a bit. I usually wear this half covered with jeans, but I also wanted to show how it looks totally tucked into high waisted bottoms.

3. Jazz Jumper

I bought this maybe a year ago and absolutely love the knit details and petite-friendly cut. This is the shorter of my Sézane sweaters and fits comfortably on my hips even with the insides open. The slightly flared balloon sleeves also fit my arms without being too long. This requires very little effort to shape as I quickly tucked the front center in half. 100% organic cotton is comfortable against the skin and is a slightly looser weave with significant weight – not heavy or thin.

4. Ltoonline jumper

My first Sézane shopping about 2 years ago! This has been a favorite of EP readers ever since, but I’d like to point out that some of you have mentioned your L.toThe ontine sweater shrank in the first wash. I didn’t realize if it was mine, but my body also fluctuated during this time.

The material on this is 100% organic cotton, and the cut of a XXS on me is really perfect as a slightly loose, slightly oversized (but not overwhelming) sweater. If you could only buy 1 striped sweater for a capsule wardrobe that can be worn from casual to work casual, this would be it.

If you like the look and length of this sweater but are interested in a thicker, thicker knit, check out their models. lucas jumper I tried but couldn’t take a picture. This, despite having wool content in it, the organic cotton + merino wool blend feels almost like a full cotton blend to the touch, without the fuzz or itchiness factor for me.

The Lucas XXS is exactly the same length as my Leontine xxs, while the Lucas is noticeably thicker/warmer and thicker in weight. Lucas’s color is dark blue stripes on a brighter cream background, while Leontine has black stripes on beige / off-white.
