While the holidays bring extra sales, there are inevitably returns to go with them. Returns are pretty common for e-commerce businesses, but you can use the experience to your advantage. The right policies and procedures can increase repeat purchases and gain customer loyalty. In this article, we will review our refund process until our sellers receive a refund for the commission fee.

Bonanza is home to more than 40,000 merchants, each with unique business needs and individual policies. Bonanza doesn’t have a “one size fits all” returns process because we want you to have the option to handle returns in the best way for your business. However, there are three main steps to processing a return on Bonanza, each of which can be customized to your business model.

Step 1: Receiving the returned item

Customers are often disappointed or frustrated when a product they buy doesn’t work, so maintaining a calm demeanor during your interactions with these buyers will work in your favor. If you do not accept returns, be sure to communicate this to your customer quickly and politely. You can expand your returns policies or direct them to your customer. If you accept the return, the first step is to work with the buyer so they can ship the item back to you. We currently do not have the ability to sell return shipping labels through Bonanza, but you can purchase a return shipping label through your preferred provider (Stamps.com, UPS, etc.) and ship the label directly to the buyer. Contact the buyer via Bmail and ask them to provide their email address so you can email the shipping label. Paying upfront for the return label is a sign of goodwill for your customer and allows you to control the shipping service your item will receive.

Alternatively, you can ask the buyer to purchase their own shipping label and consider reimbursing them through a third-party payment processing company (such as PayPal). After you receive the returned item, you can start refunding them.

Step 2: Refund your customer

Many sellers expect to refund the order until they receive the item from the buyer. This helps protect your business against potential purchase fraud.

After you successfully receive the item, it’s time to issue a refund. How you refund your buyer depends on how they paid. Here’s how to get a refund for a transaction made through our various payment methods:

Step 3: Post-return processes

After you receive the item and refund the buyer, there are a few last things to take care of:

Submit a refund request

You have 180 days from the transaction date to request a refund for your final value fees. The buyer must be refunded before you can claim a refund for the canceled transaction.

To request a refund, go to your “Billing statements” page and select the month in which the transaction occurred. Click the red “x” next to the refunded order and follow the instructions to request a refund for the transaction. We will use the data provided to us by the payment provider to confirm the returned transaction.

If we are unable to confirm the refund, we will ask you for more information to ensure the refund is issued.

Relist your item

You can re-list the returned item to save time. Visit your “Recent Sales” from the Sales drop-down menu in the upper left corner. From there, find the order in question and click “Relist items” below the transaction summary.

All items in the order will be set to “Items ready to ship” status. This allows you to delete any items from the order that you don’t want to relist before posting the items. When you’re ready to publish the relisted item, visit ‘Add or edit item’ from the Sales drop-down menu and select ‘Update your booth’.
