Petite-Friendly Smart Casual Outfit Ideas

[ad_1]

I’m excited to be back to share my daily outfit ideas after being sick at home for a few weeks! From polls on IG, it seems that many of your formerly casual business offices are now adopting a “smart casual” or “dress for your day” dress code. There are various rules about what smart casual means, but generally speaking, the key to smart casual is to find a balance between your more specific pieces and your casual pieces.

My go-to formula is usually to pair 1 traditional workwear item (i.e. trousers, jeans, button-down shirt, blazer) with a casual piece. Denim is a great base, but for the office, I avoid uncomfortable or frayed edges. I find straight black jeans (like this couple – I love the cut) being super versatile for smart casual looks as they easily fit into sleeker work pants.

Below are 5 stylish casual outfits that I put together using essential items from my wardrobe!

1. Cream jeans + button-up shirt

Two of my favorite Everlane staples in one. I love how light and airy this button up is and the plus size casual cut works well with denim shorts or wearing it as a workwear. Off-white jeans are a must-have for me, and these jeans are the closest I’ve found to an old favorite. I’m 5′ tall and did a bit of the shortest inseam for a cropped length that also works with flats and sneakers (see length on me before curling).

2. Pleated skirt + blouse

This Although it may seem like a basic black button-down shirt at first glance, it is one of my favorites thanks to its small details. I love the slim puffy shoulders and feminine frill neckline.

3. Blazer + slim straight jeans

4. Black straight jeans + long cardigan

5. Pants + sweater tank + striped sweater

This reformation sweater tank It’s a great staple in both black and white. The ribbed material is medium weight, meaning it’s a little thicker than a regular tank, but not thick enough to be hot for summer. I’m always on the lookout for these popular Zara trousers and while the XS waist is tight and fits me well, I made the bottom a few inches. Note that the waist on these is slightly higher than on my other pants that come in petite sizes.
