Hope you had a great weekend guys! We’re looking forward to the last days of summer in New England, which means playgrounds and picnics around town, weather permitting! If you’re visiting Boston, here are a few of our favorite weekend trips with the little ones:
- Charles River + Public Garden: Wander the Charles River promenade, grab food from one of the many grab-and-go restaurants on Boylston or Newbury Street, and enjoy it on a bench or lawn in the Public Garden. Our children love it three playgrounds Along the promenade from toddler/infant age to tough big kid closer to Beacon Hill. For food, we usually go to Dig Inn because it’s food allergy friendly with lots of things the kids happily eat (like sweet potato, half avocado, meatloaf, chicken). Little ones can also enjoy a very slow-moving swan boat at Boston Common or the carousel or playground across the street.
- Castle Island: This family favorite in South Boston has ample parking, tons of open space for picnics, a long walkway with water views, and sullivans For good ole New England fare (lobster rolls, fried fish) and affordable staples like hot dogs and burgers, it’s the place to be. It’s easy to pre-order online, they’re great with my food allergy concerns and questions (they’re happy with preparing food separately from allergens, using a new pair of gloves each time, etc.), and Nori is a happy camper with just fries and a plain burger. Kids like to throw stones directly at Castle Island playground or into the ocean, but there are better (IMO) playgrounds in South Boston a short drive away.
- Coolidge Corner, Brookline: We also found ourselves returning to Coolidge Corner, Brookline, where we love to live as young college-educated professionals! Along Harvard Street there is a frequent bookstore, small shops, playgrounds, picnic tables and surprisingly good Asian cuisine like Rod Dee Thai, Bab Bistro Korean, ramen, plus a popular bagel spot and a newer Tatte place. A nice new addition since we lived there Maruichi Japanese deliHere, you can have a bento lunch or reasonably priced sushi, plus some freshly made Brooklyn ramen noodles in the fridge section! (see image below) These ramen noodles have great chew factor and freeze well for weeknight quick meals too!

It’s random but I love Nori since she was little Surprise with Stride Rite At Target for standing/early walking baby shoes! They’re not the cutest styles, but they expand with velcro straps so they’re super easy to put on and take off, have stretchy bottoms, and look comfortable for little ones.
