Cultivate Awards II. Have you watched our Year Final event? Did you hear about who took home the title and grand prize of our event? He is none other than the creator of Barkwood and Pinecone Row. White!

What are the Breeding Awards, you ask?

All right… let’s catch you! Last year, we launched a program to help nurture and develop the foundation of plus-size designers. One thing we’ve noticed in the last 13 years of The Curvy Fashionista is that these independent plus size designers they have literally become the lifeblood of style, innovators of fashion, and daring defiances of societal norms about what plus-size people want…

As plus size fashion grows, it has become even more important to support the independent designer ecosystem, raise awareness and celebrate those who push the boundaries! Moreover? We’ve been looking for a long time large-scale retailers will collaborate with independent designers… there is!

So when this opportunity arose, we knew we had a chance to help provide them with a variety of resources, and that’s when Breeding Awards are born! With the support of Eloquii, we just released our collection from the first year winner, Melissa Mercedes. Did you check?

Well, the finalists for the 2nd year of The Cultivate Awards gave us range! We had a selection of contemporary, evening dresses, chic and sophisticated, boho luxury. thanks to our mentor GabiFresh and Honorable Judges Susan Moses, Gwen DeVoe and Yesenia Torres, we have our 2022 winners!

Meet White From Barkwood and Pinecone Row!

Born in Baltimore and raised in Howard County, Maryland, Charniece White (herself) is an economist, curator, mold maker and full package technical designer. He is NOT new to this, all of you!

This independent designer currently residing in Los Angeles has won them all! $10,000 prize, a capsule collection with Eloquii, and the title of 2022 Cultivate Awards Winner! In addition to the big prize, she will enjoy a new bed. Big Fig Bed and Mentoring from the brand’s VC friends!

“I really like juxtaposition and nostalgia. I love a beautiful moment, old/new, hard/soft, light/dark. I draw inspiration from my mother, aunts, grandmothers and ancestors. I like to blend this aesthetic with design principles/elements that are often most prevalent in popular culture.”

Leathers, plaids and prints – oh my!

Charniece is committed to creating pieces that are both versatile and thoughtful. he understands that “Most women have work to do during the day so they need to be comfortable, but they also want to look cool and express themselves and their personality through their clothes.”

And for our additional finalists?

Second place Anglea Rene’ and second place Matthew Robinson were awarded a $2,500 scholarship grant each from ELOQUII. Third place was awarded a $1,000 scholarship to LeAndra “Elle” Dove. Each finalist will receive a mattress by BigFig, mentored by Curvy Couture co-founder Evora Russel and Realist Ventures general partner Marie Rocha, and Shapermint will award the winner of the Voters Choice Awards!
