As we enter coat season, I wanted to share a few different ways I style and tie a belt on both my trench coats and wool coats! These fastening methods are not only a stylish finishing touch to an outfit, but also practical to prevent your sashes from falling off, and also help you define a little waist when wearing your coats open. Below I have attached photos of the completed knots, but I advise you to look at my video tutorial on Instagram!

1. Back Tie: Back Knot
When I wear my coats open, I like to fasten the belt at the back using this clean and simple knot. Also, as I shared, it’s great for zipping up some of the material on the back to create a small shape. before and after this post. I’ve trained myself to make this tie from behind, but if you’re just learning this, you can tie your coat on a hanger or from the back of your chair before you put it on.
2. Back Tie: Side Knots
This is the easiest and error-free option anyone can make! I love this if I’m wearing my coat open and want to fasten the belt quickly so it doesn’t fall off or get lost.
3. Front Tie: Hand Knot
It’s a nice clean knot for when I don’t want the feminine feel of a bow tie or half loop tie. I shared this last year and I use it regularly! please see to this post for step-by-step and video tutorial.
