How to Wear Leather Tights 40, 50 and Later

Leather tights are edgy and sexy, so they can be hard to wear after age 40, 50 or more. Nailing the look so as not to look stylish and cheap depends on what you’re wearing them with. E.g:

Do not wear leather or faux leather tights.:

• short tops
• tight tops
• thin and transparent tops
• very sexy tops with deep V-neck and cutouts
• long leather high-heeled boots
• anything with biker gang details like buckles, snaps, and chains
• heavy, masculine pieces
• too much glitter, shine
• cheap fabrics
• too many jewels
• too many accessories
• stacks of makeup
• big hair
• stilettos
• all black

With the Black Leather Tights, wear:

• flowing and not too tight tops, so the silhouette is wider, looser and narrower on the top, skinny on the bottom

Which Tops Should You Wear With Leather Tights?

There are many tops you can wear with tights that I’ll show you below. What they all have in common is that they cover your butt. Best tops to wear with leather leggings:

A matte or silky long shirt adds a feminine touch to leather tights with a masculine feel. Notice the cool faux crocodile print that adds a nice texture and personality to this outfit.

4. Faux Leather Tights Dresses

You can wear a dress with leather tights, but it has to be the right dress. A short sweater dress with faux leather leggings is a stylish look. Pair with booties or your favorite slip-on statement sneakers.

5. Tunic and Knit Tunic Sweater

Any tunic or tunic sweater looks great with leggings, especially if the bottom is slightly flared. It gives an assertive look when it has an asymmetrical hem. A solid color is always eye-catching with black leather tights, or wear a print with a bit of black to pair it with black leather tights.

6. Blazers

Wear a tight but not baggy T-shirt (backless) + blazer + leather leggings to look stylish. This is a more stylish version of blue jeans and tops. Layered pieces help you create a shape from wide to narrow that is very thin.

7. Ponchos

A poncho is another knit that looks great with leather/faux leather leggings. Poncho + tights + riding boots are a very stylish look.

Not Sure About Leather Leggings? Try Suede Tights Instead

If you can’t wrap your head around leather leggings but want a sharper look than Ponte leggings, try suede leggings. They are hip but also elegant.

One final note: I recently bought faux leggings and they got long after I wore one, so you might want to consider getting one size smaller. Check with the salesperson how much they will stretch.
