Reader Question: “Where is the best place for a V-shaped body to wear a brooch? I am particularly interested in areas in the portrait as the brooch can help with both value contrast and color contrast.”

Most women focus on their least favorite body parts when dressing. This is a completely wrong way of dressing.

“If you’re looking into my eyes, you’re not looking at my hips.” It’s one of my favorite sayings – and it’s so true! The place we look at when communicating with you is your face.

You should focus on dressing your portrait first, as it will draw attention to your face. Brooches are the perfect way to accessorize your portrait and add the finishing touch to complete your look.

Where Should You Wear Your Brooches for a V Body Shape?

Fortunately, there are many ways to wear a brooch – watch the video!

Also called Inverted Triangle shape, V Shape bodies have broad shoulders and narrower hips and thighs, so we want to create balance and draw attention to the center of the body. That’s why tops with narrower openings such as tight V-necklines, crew-necklines, punched collars and gathered collars look great on you.V-shaped body wear brooches (1) wear them close to your neck

Brooches worn closer to the center of the body are perfect for a V shape because they draw attention to the center of the body and away from your shoulders. Brooches worn close to the neck on shirt collars and narrow jacket lapels also draw attention to the center of the body.

Jacket collars are a traditional place to attach brooches and pins. This is the most versatile place to put pieces of any type, size or color. Let your imagination run wild and your personality shine! When attaching a brooch to a jacket collar, you can attach the brooch a little lower to create a longer vertical that runs through the middle of your body. If the jacket has a wide neckline (usually not recommended for a V-shape as it draws the eyes towards the shoulders), keep the brooch close to the collar.

Small brooches can also be worn over the buttons of a shirt, again forming a long vertical line running down the middle of your body.

For petite V-shapes, keep the brooches higher on the body and the overall scale of the brooch smaller to draw attention to the face without overwhelming your frame. Finally, don’t forget to add some volume to your lower area with a skirt or trousers to balance the width of your shoulders.

Note that brooches and brooches are more noticeable if they contrast with the background. Try matching or contrasting the brooch color with the color of your eyes.

Whatever your body shape, the right brooch can be an effective and stylish way to complete any outfit.
