Over the years, I have received many requests to review Canada Goose coats. Although they’re seen on every block in Boston, I didn’t set foot in a store until Nick recently announced he was in serious need of a winter hedgehog. I didn’t know they offered a special Fusion Fit for both men and women, specially designed for smaller frames. I wanted to answer some sizing questions based on my experiments and also compare women’s parkas with kids’ ones ($500 cheaper)!
Why is Canada Goose so popular?
When I ask my friends who are Canada Goose fans, they say they can only wear a thin layer underneath and still stay very warm in the harsh Northeast winters. Their products are guaranteed for a lifetime against defects, and most people I asked said they’ve had Canada Goose down parkas for 5 to 10 years and plan to wear them longer.
They also have functional features such as water-resistant shells, fleece pocket linings, inside zip pockets, straps to adjust the depth of the hoodie, and shoulder straps to carry the jacket while inside (or sweating through tough outdoor activities).
What is Fusion Fit?
Fusion Harmony It is the “petite” sizing version of the Canada Goose for selection men’s styles and women’s styles From XXS to L. According to their website, “The Fusion Fit is designed to provide the ideal fit, comfort and protection for smaller body frames.” Regulations include:
- smaller scale header
- narrower in the chest than in the hips
- shorter sleeve lengths and shorter skirt lengths
Reading between the lines, Fusion Fit was introduced after the brand gained popularity in Asian markets. It’s similar in that brands like Burberry and Uniqlo have different “fits” for the same products sold in North American and Asian stores. Unlike other brands, Canada Goose’s “Fusion Fit” can be purchased not only in Asia, but also here. How I LOVE the easy access to buy other brands’ clothes in reduced sizes!
Which size and fit do you prefer?
I tried the same multiples between Standard Fit (also known as Classic Fit) and Fusion Fit and the latter clearly sitting shorter and narrower all over.
For proper reference, I’m currently about 5′ tall 98lb, 32 chest – 25 waist – 33 hips. After trying multiple sizes and sticking to the size charts, I would best fit an XXS in their Standard Fit and size up to an XS in the Fusion Fit.
What are the most popular Canada Goose parkas for women?
Bestsellers for women are water resistant Shelburne and Rossclair down parkas. Each of these are now sold in versions without fur trim, but last time I checked, the Fusion Fit is currently only available in older “Heritage” styles with trim. The brand has made a statement stating that they will no longer be producing fur coats until the end of this month, so it will be interesting to see how things change.
Canada Goose Shelburne Parka
This signature style features layers of quilted details and a gently tapering A-line silhouette. The hoodie looks huge to me in all the photos below, but that’s because I haven’t zipped the jacket all the way up and the hood is fully open. I really like how deep and comfortable their hoodies are, with a visor-like bulge to protect your face from bad weather.
Unfortunately I don’t have a photo of it, but then I tried the XXS Standard Fit and personally preferred it over the two sizes shown on me. I like the longer knee length of the Standard Fit, while the Fusion Fit definitely fits better on my shorter arms.
Canada Goose Rossclair Parka
Compared to the Shelburne, the Rossclair has an internal drawstring waist and more prominent front pockets for a tighter waist. I like the pocket style and quilting at Shelburne, but also the drawstring at Rossclair. Both styles feature the same generously sized hood.
The XS Fusion Fit in Rossclair felt a little more comfortable on my hips than the same size in Shelburne. If I had wider hips, I’d consider trying a size up in Fusion Fit (size S) for Rossclair.
Similar to the Shelburne, I would personally prefer the XXS Standard Fit for the longer torso, although the Fusion Fit’s shorter sleeves are better for me.

How does Canada Goose Kids fit into a petite frame?
Many of you have asked if I have tried it on Canada Goose children. British Parka, which is about 40% less than women’s options. It seems that more and more women are reviewing this children’s parka for themselves and not for kids!
I usually don’t buy children for adult women as they are out of proportion or there are some childish details. But I have to say… this one Big in Kids fits me pretty well. Thanks to the drawstring at the back waist, the coat has a curve and shape just like women. The sleeves and overall length fit me perfectly. Children’s Large arms fit me like the adult Fusion Fit XS length, while the torso sits on me like the adult Standard Fit XXS.
I also tried a kid’s Medium, which some reviewers recommended, and it was too small and fit me for a coat.
A few other observations:
- The weight of the children’s coat is lighter than the above women’s parkas. Even though they are all listed as TEI 3 temperature rating, I thought the kids felt weaker.
- Children’s hoodies are much smaller and do not have a dangling cover like women’s.
- The children’s logo patch looks a little downsized compared to the women’s.
- If you’re buying this for a growing child, the kiddie arms have a fun feature that “grows” with you. If you turn the jacket inside out and remove the red seam, the sleeves will stretch by 1.5 inches!
- Children’s arm openings have some reflective stripes around the edges (typical for children’s products).
- Some online reviews mention a kid XL which I no longer see – now only up to L
