Color has been on my mind lately, so when I saw fresh, new, cool-toned colors at J. Jill, I went to try some. This collection isn’t brand new, but it is to me, so I hope you see some pieces that interest you.
If you’re new here, welcome. A locker room diary when I go to a local store to see what’s new and show you what this looks like on a woman over 25. I have broad shoulders, straight hips, a tall torso and long arms. I usually buy one size bigger on the top. You’ll see that I try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not like me because I want you to see what’s in store and get some style ideas. To help you understand how things work, I’ll tell you what sizes I wear.
J. Jill has made it easy to size each style so that it can normally be found in sizes XS-4X. The petite and tall models are still available in some popular styles, and all sizes are priced similarly.
It soft collared sweater It caught my attention as soon as I entered the store. The color(s) and softness were interesting but the most important to me was the set on the arm. I’m so used to seeing all things low-shouldered these days that a fitted sleeve is refreshing. Making recessed sleeves for brands takes more work and costs more, but it’s well worth it. This top comes in soft gray and midnight blue colors that you will see me style later. The fabric is a super soft blend with lots of spandex so it’s very stretchy. I wear a petite plus size that is loose on my body but the sleeves are the right length. Jeans are a high-rise, straight-leg style. in this soft gray or dark blue rinse. These are petite with 28 1/2 inch inseams.
Here is that midnight blue sweater. I am wearing a normal small in this deep blue and prefer the one that suits me. It’s only slightly longer throughout the body but the sleeves are better, the shoulders fit me and the V isn’t that deep. i wear these french terry pants in the same midnight blue color. They are so soft and comfortable that they feel like pajamas. They also come in a pale gray color.
This funnel neck sweater has honeycomb texture that comes in this pale blue or honey color. It is box-shaped, with low shoulders. The description says it’s long enough to be worn with leggings, but I disagree with that. At 26 1/2″ it’s not long enough to cover your backside which is mandatory with leggings. The inside seam on these is normally 31 1/2″.
Here are 29″ petite same jeans with inseams. I wear them with this beautiful V-neck sweater in purple passion. Slightly cropped pullover with dropped shoulders available in 3 colours. I love the proportions of fuller legs with a shorter top. ‘
Same as the straight leg gray jeans I showed above, this time in normal length which is too long for me. i wear them with one short v-neck cardigan soft maroon lavender in color. There is also a navy blue color, but I preferred a low-contrast outfit in medium/soft tones. Short and cropped sweaters are perfect with high waisted trousers and jeans and are natural for shorter women.
The J. Jill FIT collection features many comfortable options in performance fabrics. This fitted drawstring sweatshirt is light enough to be worn at any time. I love the interesting stripe details that take it a step up from a typical striped top. The same gray jeans I shared above. I’m wearing a little petite this fluffy tunic this is really long enough to wear leggings. Super soft and cute with an overlapping shawl collar in deep black pepper. I thought it would be bulky but it is very light.
Here’s a side-by-side comparison of petite and regular-lengths pants jeans. It barely covers the top of my petite shoe. When I walked this length, they would get caught in the front and top heel of my shoes, and when I sat down they would definitely go up. Regular shoes are too tall for flat shoes, but I bought them to try with my 1″ heel boots.
This zipper jacket is from the FIT collection. Very soft and beautiful. I would wear it with non-sports clothes. The quilting is only on the front and back, greatly reducing any volume. The Pure Jill long sleeve tee is totally classic and a great wardrobe staple. I wear these with navy blue French Terry full length pants. This fabric is silky smooth, lightweight and very comfortable.
It marshmallow boat neck sweater It is the right length to wear with leggings and tight pants. This is a soft cotton blend that stretches and will work well into spring. I paired it with cotton/Tencel/spandex pull pants. They come in three colors and I’m wearing caviar. Because they’re a little big, I landed on an XS which made them a little shorter and the right length for me. I added this wrap scarf in navy and off-white and the most gorgeous cool-toned blues. It is thick enough to be worn as a wrap and adds a real statement to your outfit.
