It has become a bit of an obsession for me, but I can’t help but try on a dress. I stopped recently J. McLaughlin to see what they have to offer this season. I have broad shoulders, straight hips, a tall torso and long arms. I usually buy one size bigger on the top. You will see that I try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not like me because I want you to see what’s in store and get some style ideas. The first thing I noticed when I entered the store was the wide variety of prints. I rarely wear patterns, but if I invest in one, I want it to be classic. I tend to shop for timeless pieces that I can wear every season (especially at this price point). That means I’ll be transferring trendy prints that will feel outdated very quickly.
The first dress I reached this gingham belt dress is in dark pink. Gingham fabrics are always popular for spring and seem to be on trend lately. This dress has a shirt collar and 3/4 sleeves. The included belt is nice, but if I had brought this home with me, I would probably have replaced the belt with a different one. I’m wearing Medium but I would have bought a size bigger so there are no gaps in the buttons. It comes in XXS-XL.
The next dress I try This is a navy blue and white striped dress. The stretch of the fabric is very comfortable. Navy and white is a classic spring combination with a playful nautical vibe. I love how the side belts hide problem areas in your midsection. I could see myself wearing this dress over and over, so it was well worth the investment. XXS-XXL sizes are available.
For those who like to cover their arms and be taller, here is another dress made with some stretching. The retro look print on this dress is called Islet Link. It is subtle and can be worn to the office or simply worn. I think this would be nice for a graduation, shower or casual wedding. This is a warm color combination. XS-XL sizes are available.
Surprisingly, this is the only sturdy dress I’ve tried. I love this feminine approach on a typical shirt dress in rich navy blue. It is straight cut and could benefit from adding a belt. I love that it has side pockets in my book which is always a plus. It also comes in a taupe/off-white pattern in sizes XXS-XXL.
Then I tried this sheath dress with this fun, retro feel print. The warm color palette of red, orange, pink, and nude looks great for year-round wear. This classic sheath dress features princess seams that beautify the figure and give it a beautiful shape. This dress is available in XS-XL sizes.
this shirt dress almost came home with me. I can see it with comfy sandals and a neutral crossover strap for a casual dinner out, or with white skins for errands. You can also wear a pair of white, tan, or navy heels for a high-end look when commuting or having a classy meal out. XXS-XXL sizes are available.
This useful style shirt dress It felt pretty comfortable to me and would have been effortless to slip on for a summer day. I would probably pair it with my favorite Jack Rogers sandals or white tennis shoes. It also comes in pink in this honeycomb pattern. XS-XXL sizes are available.

The dresses in this trial pleasantly surprised me. They were all well made and fit nicely. Most have a classic, chic vibe with high-quality fabrics and a variety of prints and silhouettes.
