I have broad shoulders, straight hips, a tall torso and long arms. I usually buy one size bigger on the top. You’ll see that I try on clothes in colors and shapes that may or may not like me because I want you to see what’s in store and get some style ideas. To help you understand how things work, I tell you what sizes I wear.
Ann Taylor had quite a few soft flowers, so I started with this ribbed popover shell in delicate blue and white colors. It comes in both regular and petite sizes in sizes XXS-XXL. It has a concealed placket along the front edge and a small ruffle that continues around the neckline. The shirt-tail hem looks beautiful, zipped or unzipped. I paired it with these high waist wide leg pants. I’m wearing a regular length with 25 1/2″ inseams, it doesn’t crop me up much. The petite has 23 1/3″ inseams.
This is inlaid sweater It has a large flower pattern in bright blue on white. It has a nice loose shape and fits softly into the cotton blend. It’s a bit cropped so there isn’t a lot of fabric to tuck into it. these high rise straight jeans ivory. They come in regular with a 28″ inseam and petite with a 25 1/2″ inseam. I prefer normal length because they help me look a little taller. It is 98% cotton, 2% elastane and very thin.
Here is the same print as above, this time with long sleeves. This is a mixed media top, which means the fabric is woven on the front and knit on the back. They do this a lot with their tops, which makes them extra comfortable. Its long sleeves are gathered at the cuff so you can push it up to 3/4 if you want.
I’m always a fan of tucking or half-rolling a top, but never as much as when pant legs are short or short. The look on the left has a 50/50 ratio, which is the least flattering you can wear. On the right, my legs look longer, and that’s a nicer proportion.
I match it with the blouse these tall buildings wide leg sailor trousers. These are black and also in sapphire colour. This petite has a 23″ inseam and regular models have a 25 1/2″ inseam. They’re machine washable, easy to care for, and they’ll be fun for the summer with a pair of white tennis and white t-shirts.
This geometric bow seashell looks more flattering than it did on me online. It’s a size too big for me, and the fit is too thick for me, so it makes me look much wider than I am. Compression could have helped, but I don’t think so. I wear it with the same high-waisted ivory jeans I’m wearing over it and it fits so well; They should be part of my wardrobe this spring.
This quirky shoulder yoke is exactly the wrong shape for my silhouette 🙂 but it would be great for a pear shaped woman who wants to visually broaden her shoulders. It comes in 7 colors and some are discounted. I’m wearing it with These are floral embroidered tweed shorts. It’s a heavier fabric than I expected for spring, so I’m not sure if they’re late to the store. They would be great with a pair of boots and a cozy sweater for cold weather. This is fake neck top It comes in black or aqua. Because it’s black, you can’t see much detail, but it has gathered cuffs, a sheer sleeve, and a small ruffle around the neckline. It also has a shirred front shoulder yellow and a lined body. It comes in regular and petite.
This textured long-sleeved sweater has a tweed-like effect with small pieces of tape sewn into an ivory background. It fits softly but doesn’t quite fit. The body is 22″ long, very easy to put on or tuck in. It has a funnel collar and is a machine washable cotton blend.
This button opening is what you want to avoid on button-down blouses and shirts. I’ve always worn one small in most of my Ann Taylor tops, but my recent holiday pounds have put me in a medium size. I swear this Hollywood fashion tape to avoid opening your mouth, but sometimes you just need to go one size bigger.
this sweater blazer It’s a great alternative to the cardigan, but has a slightly more flamboyant feel to it. It comes in four colors in regular and small lengths. These are very convenient, high-rise, straight leg jeans in a classic dark wash. (I’m so glad to see the end of Ann Taylor’s double-button belt on jeans!) These are zippered, single-buttoned and come in regular and petite with a 28″ inseam for the regular and a 26″ inseam for the petite. The website says these are 1/2-1″ below the natural waistline, but they just hit mine.
We determined that the bust of this blouse is too tight for me, so we move on… I’m wearing it these wide-legged chinos this fits great. They come in 3 colors in reg and petite lengths. It’s a machine-washable cotton/spandex blend, and welt pockets on the back elevate their look from a jean-style patch pocket. Inside seams are 31″ normally and 28 1/2″ in petite. I wear the fried oats (cream) color and they come in blue or white too.
These tall buildings skinny trousers have a great cut in six different colors, regular, curvy and petite. They have a polished look in 4% elastane machine washable fabric and will hold their shape and won’t bag. I wear a regular length with a 27″ inseam. The petite has a 25″ inseam. These are a great essential to have in your wardrobe, you can dress them up or wear them. It would be great to travel with them too. The cardigan has a stylish feel with a contrast band. I’ve always liked V-neck cardigans because they are preferred to zero collars when worn over button-down shirts and blouses.
We’ve all heard that skinny jeans are out of fashion, but the truth is that many women still love and wear them. If you do, they are one of the proudest couples. skinny jeans I’ve tried for years. They are curvy, regular, petite and tall. I wear petite and they fit me perfectly. It is a cotton/rayon/polyester/spandex blend and is machine washable and dryable, available in sizes 00-18. I was seriously tempted (because we know skinny’s are coming back), so if you like skinny jeans, these are worth a look.
i am wearing this honeycomb cable sweater a gorgeous sky blue on them. Regular and petite watermelon and whiskey cream are also available in sizes XXS-XXL. It is a cotton acrylic polyester blend that will be comfortable indoors and comfortable outdoors on mild days. Vertical cables have a slight thinning effect as they are not overly bulky.
This trench coat poncho has an unusual pattern and I think I’m too short for it. I’m wearing an XS/S but the waistband is pretty low despite my tall torso, so it looks pretty boxy. Of course, it should look like a box, as it does not fit the body.
the hardest to find these pants because the website shows them with a deeper headline. These come in six colors and are machine-washable cotton with 8% elastane, so these are never bag out. It is a narrow cut that is not thin enough to grasp the calf, but wraps around the wrists. This is a soft winter white and also comes in five different colors. The petite one has a 25″ inseam, the regular one has a 27″ inseam, and the tall one has a 30″ inseam. They also come in a pleated fit. This mixed media blouse is woven in the front and knit in the back. Three fades in a comfortable fit with the shirttail hem comes in color.
It plaid trench coat It caught my eye as soon as I walked in the door. Really fun and beautifully made. The plaid is ivory cream, pale blue, and apparently… dark navy. It is fully lined with all the details of a classic trench coat. Plaid is a fun nod to a Burberry print at a fraction of the cost.
I know many of you are drenched in winter weather, but stores have finished counting their stocks, so they’re going full throttle with spring options.
