Dressing Room Diaries – Cool Autumn Colors at Talbots

Happy Tuesday ladies. I am on a roll with cool toned colors for fall. They are not always available at this time of year and women who opt for them often have a hard time at this time of year. I strongly believe in stocking flattering shapes and colors when they are plentiful as they work in cycles. I stopped at Talbots last week and found many options.

If you’re new here, welcome. The locker room diary is when I go to a local store for a trial session so you can see what’s new and how it looks on a woman over 25. For reference, I’m 5’4″ tall and weigh about 134lbs. I have flat hips, broad shoulders, a long torso, and long arms. I usually get a size up on the top. I want you to see and get some style ideas.To help you understand how things work, I tell you what sizes I wear.

Talbots makes great casual pullover dresses that don’t wrap all the wrong places and are endlessly wearable. this sweater dress it features a flashy hoodie and tweed knit that can alternate between chic and casual. Pair it with opaque tights and flat booties or casual shoes, or dress it up with heels and high jewelry for dinner. This burgundy is a great cool shade this is the deep water version.

These are cashmere tights The motif has little golden touches, but mostly it’s cool. The black background is softened by the pattern and other colors, making it easy for many to wear. I paired with these flat cables It comes in ten colors. This peacock blue is rich and easy to pair with warm or cool tops. I have legs folded under 1″.

This sweater and pants a tweed herringbone blazer in the peacock. I’m used to seeing herringbone in camel, tan, and brown tones, so it’s a delight. This also comes in two other cool-toned colors. It has gold-tone buttons that purists might need replacing…but frankly, I like the way it looks. I went up to 10 to get enough room at my shoulders and arm length, so if you plan on layering, consider sizing.

Black is usually cool, but there are versions with a warm cast. It’s pretty simple. this striped top it has a pleated sleeve detail on the shoulder which looks terrible on my broad shoulders so most other outfits allow me to cover them up 🙂 Jeans frankly cool and one of the Talbots’ best new forms in the last few seasons. They have a straight cut and above the waist, which is great for checking out muffin tops and tall girls. Cury fits here. they call it a blazer, but it looks more like a cardigan to me. It comes in seven colors, three warm, three cold, and black.

This tweed sweater skirt It is labeled black, but tweed softens it to deep charcoal. It will be very comfortable this season and will look great with tights and knee boots, booties or flats. I see it with a casual sweater and a warm vest but not a blouse because the weight can be mismatched and compression becomes an issue. You can also put a blazer on it. It also comes in camels. This zipper sweater it floats on me 🙂 I needed a petite small or medium size. This ivory is warm-toned. It comes in three cool tones, four of which are warm and black. FYI- I say black because many women find black too harsh these days. This ivory is less opaque than I would like if I plan to layer it over a darker shirt.

this sweater It is super soft and comfortable. It comes in three cool shades and three warm ones, but I haven’t seen the berry red in person, and the website indicates it can go either way. I put one on navy sherpa vest This is great for ordinary days. Actually, I think this verst would be great this sweater dress with these riding boots. I paired this with these classic denim jeggings in a light wash to match the top and vest, reducing the levels of formality.

If you’re wondering, here’s the proof. faux leather leggings They went into the mainstream. If Talbots sells them, you know they are suitable for all ages… it all depends on how you style them. They have a side ponte panel that gives them plenty of stretch and a side zipper for easy access. Believe me, I’ve sprained my hands multiple times trying to pull off faux leather leggings without openings. These are a size too small for me, but still don’t have that spray-painted look that is hard to pull off in any size.

I paired with a tweed jacket and cable sweater for many different looks. Both are ivory with a warm undertone, but the cardigan also comes in cool indigo and aqua.

this plaid shirt coral and aqua plaid ivory which mostly looks cool to me. Slim-cut jeans are in a seine wash and pair beautifully with herringbone tweed.

As I was leaving, I saw this quilted jacket in what they call port mist. A very soft grayish green that will go with many other colors and flatter many summer palettes. I would probably buy a size up to a medium size for layering over sweaters, so it sticks to size.
