Plus, it’s bridal week (eeeee!!!) at TCF and we’re so excited to be interviewing Hannah Nodskov, the bridal designer and plus-size fashion goddess behind Hannah Caroline Couture. Today, we are talking about ALL her latest size bridal collection!
We’ve followed (and written about!) Hannah’s rise to success over the past 5 years, and we were VERY nerdy interviewing her (really!) about plus-size wedding dress brand Hannah Caroline Couture.
Wedding Dress Designer Including Size
Hannah, who lives in Nebraska, has two main ways of working with plus-size brides. In addition to launching She bridal collections, she works 1:1 with brides to design the custom plus size wedding gowns of their dreams.

Body Included Bridal Collection: Midnight Shimmer
Hannah’s latest collection, Midnight Shimmer, features a range of non-traditional wedding dresses that Hannah is famous for.
“My main inspiration comes from fabric” ‘ Hannah explained. “I see so many great ideas from brides and tons of great fabrics in the process of making custom wedding dresses. Frankly, I can’t use all the fabrics I discover on a client, so I’m constantly looking for interesting materials and new collar ideas.”
Hannah wanted to make sure she offered options for her Midnight Shimmer collection that traditionally plus-size brides didn’t have. “My focus was on creating a variety of silhouettes that I don’t often see in plus size, as well as bringing interesting fabrics and textures I haven’t seen in bridal gowns,” she shared.
And of course Hannah knows how to add SPARKLE to her plus-size wedding dresses (hence the name of the collection). “I love adding sparkle to lace, beads or sequins because today’s brides want sparkle at their wedding!” he cried. “Why not a little more at your wedding?”
That’s what we’re here for!
Hannah also wanted to put forward the idea of what we think of when we say “non-traditional bride.” Although Hannah loves to design black plus size wedding dresses, she shared this. “This entire collection was geared towards non-traditional brides, not just black wedding gowns.”
Hannah adds, “Some brides want something a little different. I have a rose patterned dress with flocked velvet and I have not seen that rose pattern in velvet. She still has a white dress and a different texture.Hannah really expands the idea of what a “non-traditional” bride is, giving her clients the chance to explore and share their creativity.
Plus Size Wedding.. Romper?!
Hannah also designed a two-in-one plus size wedding dress for Midnight Shimmer. “I also have a jumpsuit in this collection,” she says with a mischievous smile, “two-in-one plus size wedding dresses that come with a detachable overskirt have become very popular. This plus size wedding look has a removable jumpsuit under the skirt! My brides have a second ‘Wow! ‘ Bring out the moment with a built-in reception gown.
Two-in-one plus size wedding dresses are definitely a trend in 2023 (I love when brides showcase their dresses on various TikTok) and it looks so fun!
Removable Covers FTW
Hannah, who has always surpassed herself, also included removable sleeves in her wedding dress collection. “I really had fun with the sleeve design on the Midnight Shimmer” says, “From a fluffy cap sleeve to a wavy bishop sleeve, many aprons have sleeves. Some with removable sleeves to make dancing easier! Brides can easily remove sleeves or even replace them. I also made a two-in-one sleeve so a bride can wear a lace illusion sleeve and tear those babies up at the reception!
(author’s note: At this point in the interview, I realized that Hannah knows how to design for brides who are ready to be the lifeblood of the party!)
Sparkle to Catch the Light—And for Wedding Photos!
Many of the plus size wedding dresses at Midnight Shimmer use glittery and glittery fabric as you can imagine.
Hannah explained this element this way: “Even for brides who don’t dress too flashy and flashy in their daily lives, I think your wedding is when you’re really extra. Right now, brides want a little sparkle or something sparkly.
And not all sparkles have to be BLING (though bling can be fun)! “Even if you’re not much of a ‘princess’ bride, your wedding day is the day you reach the top!” At Midnight Shimmer, Hannah made sure to add fabrics and options for different “levels of shine” so that every bride can shine in the way she feels most beautiful.
Plus Size Wedding Dresses to Show Off Tattoos
One thing I love about Hannah Caroline Couture wedding dresses is that the models are often inked! Hannah loves to celebrate non-traditional brides and adds design elements to “show off” her tattoos!
“As a designer dedicated to working with non-traditional brides, it is my passion to help brides display their tattoos on a day when they are pressured not to show their tattoos. During the consultation process, I ask for photos of their body art and we talk about what area they want to highlight.”
Hannah went on to explain a few different ways plus-size brides can show off their tattoos with their wedding dress:
- Frame a back tattoo with an open back design or use lace overlay and appliques to “frame” the tattoo
- For a bride who wants a wedding dress with sleeves, use a combination of illusion net and lace to “frame” arm tattoos
- Use a high slit or higher slit to show off cold leg areas. Bride can pop one leg to show off her cool shoes and upper leg
Design Your Dream Wedding Dress
While Hannah loves creating collections of plus-size bridal gowns (we love photos of plus-size models wearing her designs on the runway), many Hannah Caroline Couture choose to personalize the bride or design a dress that is totally unique and special.
Truly the best of both worlds!
explains Hannah: “The way my collections work, I produce an apron collection and also a topskirt collection. That way, when brides make an appointment to come shopping with me at my showroom in Omaha, we ‘We Can Make a Dress’ or veils, belts, lace tops, skirts, corsages, and we sew together the dress of their dreams. Really the best version of dress up!”
For brides who are not in the Midwest, brides can choose from different gowns to build the dress of their dreams. “Everything on my website is truly customizable” Shares Hannah. “A customer might say, ‘I like the top of the Zara dress, but not the skirt.’ Can we pull out a textured tulle skirt and combine it?’ My answer is always ‘Yes, no problem!’ is happening.”
Hannah Caroline Couture is a great option for brides who are afraid of “too much” asking for something very special. For brides who are unsure or need some cheerleader, Hannah is happy to do just that!
“Many of my brides come to HCC because they can’t find what they’re looking for in a traditional bridal salon. Sometimes a bride knows exactly what she wants – mood board images and all! – or we try a series of options. The process is enjoyable and fun, I love my job.”
Commitment to Body Inclusion in the Wedding Dress
Curve Wash As many plus-size brides can attest, plus-size wedding dresses can be a problem. Even if we’re lucky enough to see ANY gowns in an oversized model.
Pinterest, Google, Instagram etc. Every plus size bride who spends more than 5 minutes on the websites and looks for bridal inspiration understands that bridal gowns have a very special look to their models. Most, if not all, are 2 and 6 feet tall—that doesn’t represent the experience of most plus-size brides.
Hannah Caroline Couture includes sizes 0 to 36, which can go higher according to customer needs.
“I think what sets me apart from many other wedding dress designers is that I’ve been a plus size all my life. I know what changes and adjustments need to be made based on size and shape. From looking great in photos and in the ceremony, to even dancing in her dress, I take great care in designing wedding gowns that a bride can truly celebrate!
Hannah consults with each of her clients face-to-face (many clients in the midwest of the United States drive her) or 1:1 via Zoom, taking their measurements and photographing them to ensure a perfect fit. She also offers her clients a “Remodeling Guarantee” that helps reduce their brides’ stress levels by increasing the cost of dress changes she says.
