I know many of us are looking forward to the summer, but we’re looking forward to getting back to cozy sweaters and fall layers! As the weather is starting to get cold, I wanted to share a few workwear ideas for this transition period. I generally kept a lighter color scheme in these looks, but pulled out fall elements like earth tones, knits, suede, and tweed for added texture. Check out these posts for more workwear promotions!
1. Knitwear Dress + Pop of Autumn color
A sweater dress is the easiest “one and done” piece to wear for fall office wear, and you can replace ankle booties with knee-high boots or tights as the weather gets colder. With ribbed skirts and dresses like this, I go size up to XSP for a less tight fit on the lower abdomen. The fabric on this is very soft and smooth against the skin and the sleeves are shaped like a stylish cape.
2. Neutral Wide Leg Pants + Draped Front Blouse
This time of year I like to combine deeper hues like olive, rust, and burgundy that still pair well with my usual neutral tones. I normally don’t wear this blouse tucked in because it has a drawstring waist that can be easily styled without snagging it over jeans and trousers, and it’s a shorter length for petites. The material is a light, flowy fabric and the shoulders have a slightly structured shape to give it some edge. In general, the body is small, but the arms seem a little long to me.
As noted in my opinionFYI, these pants go way too long with an inseam of 30 inches for the Short size, and I’ll shorten them with some hemming tape. For similar wide-leg trousers that are approximately 2 inches shorter these are out (28″ Short inseam). If you don’t like wearing heels, you can easily change your ankle pants (these are my personal favourites). J. Crew pants with a tailored slim fit or lighter ankle trousers in outfit #3 below.

5. High Waist Pants + Short Jacket
Love the flattering effect of a short jacket paired with high-waisted bottoms. This jacket in petite size actually has a really shrunken and cropped cut, even on my 5-foot tall frame. Similar to the other Express pants above, I’ll shorten the 30-inch inseam of these with some tape so they can be worn with lower shoes.
