Are you in a style mess? It was quite common after the pandemic lockdowns as there was no need to dress up. Then we can get rid of the dressing habit or start to feel conspicuous when everyone is still dressed in gym clothes.

Still, the inability to shop online has meant that many have found their wardrobe a bit lacking lately, and items are worn out and you can’t find a replacement. Plus last fashion season was honestly the most boring fashion season I’ve ever seen, completely uninspired and therefore very little in stores, even if you wanted to shop unless you were after something basic.

Luckily, things are changing and there is a new trend that brings you happiness called “dopamine dressing” in which brighter colors dominate. (research shows that colors actually make us happier than black and all neutrals).

How Do You Know If You’re On A Style Routine?

What’s a styling routine for you anyway? How would you describe what a style routine is for you and your style?

If you describe your style as being in a rush, I believe it will make you feel negative. It can make you feel unsatisfied, bored, bland, or something else that doesn’t give you the lift you want and the feeling of being the stylish version of you.

A style routine is different from a self-described uniform if dressing a uniform like this makes you feel stylish.

But if you’re wearing the same 2 jeans and 3 tops on weekdays, every week and you’re not happy, this will likely be a style routine for you.

If you have lost your sense of style, it is also described as a style frenzy.

Habits can be great when we apply them to the things we need to do to keep us healthy (exercise daily, brush your teeth, eat a healthy meal or two each day).

Taking a hard line on your style or being on autopilot, reaching for the same things over and over without thinking about it can turn out to be a bad habit rather than a good one, and you’ll discover yourself in rut-town pretty quickly. if you approach your style that way.

Diversity and Stability

In the past few pandemic years, very little has been stable in our lives. We live in a very uncertain world, which means we may be reaching for tried-and-trusted products or the same clothes every day because we have little need for variety, we crave stability.

The shift from sportswear and basics to dressing with dopamine to wearing something different is an indication that the overly consistent way of dressing has become tedious from certainty.The human need for diversity and diversity is increasing.

In any time of instability in our world, be it a divorce, illness, relocation, career or job change, we tend to reach for something that makes us feel more stable – to something less volatile.

When leaving a relationship to make a radical change in your style, it can be commonplace, most commonly seen in radical haircuts or hair transformations, as if we’re shedding old skin into a new and improved version.

Transforming Your Style

When we’re going through a major transformation in our lives or moving to the other side of an uncertain time, this is a great invitation to rediscover the way you are today rather than who you were before. Re-evaluating your style to see who you are now and see if it will help you move your life towards where you want to go is an important element of your style. Sticking to a routine convinces others that you are not up to date or forward-thinking and have not moved on with the times.

One of my Personal Styling students wrote an assignment in which she had to evaluate her own wardrobe and asked what she conveyed to her (if she pretended it wasn’t hers):

“The owner of the wardrobe can be young, ordinary, simple, fun, but I can say that he mostly does not like attention and likes to be comfortable. This was an interesting exercise because I never wanted to introduce myself like that! I want to feel more sophisticated and tailored every day.”

Just recognizing what your wardrobe is saying – imagine it’s not yours and see what it tells you – can be very self-explanatory – and you can decide, like my student, to transform your style not where you want to go but where you want to go’.
