[ad_1]

We all know that being young isn’t the only thing that’s beautiful or attractive… but very few of us want to look older than we are. I wanted to look older than I was before I turned 40 because I thought it was more sophisticated and elegant. That horse left the barn, so I’m 66, now my goal is to look the best I can be at this age. Today I’m updating this post with some new ideas that I think are 9 fashion mistakes that make you look older.

Fashion Mistakes Not to Look Older

Dressing to feel young is a powerful tonic for dispelling sadness and staying visible, but there are pitfalls to avoid. No one wants to look like a sheep dressed as a lamb, but sticking to an outdated rule also makes us look older than we are.

Below you will find things that I consider unnecessarily obsolete:

  1. too many pastel outfits
  2. too much black
  3. plenty of everything
  4. outdated glasses
  5. wrong underwear
  6. outdated and too many new trends
  7. tasteless lipstick
  8. pantyhose
  9. matching accessories

1. Avoid wearing too many soft, delicate colors

Our complexions fade as we age, so wearing softer tones can be more flattering. Wearing too many pastels in the same outfit can make you look older. If you want to wear light colors from head to toe, go for pale neutral colors such as nude, ivory, light gray or beige. Soft pink and baby blue are a classic combination, but hard to pull off after a certain age. If you like pastel colors close to your face, fix it with a stronger color at the bottom. It looks great with baby blue, navy and black, or brown and charcoal—same for soft pink, butter yellow, and pale peach.

2. Avoid too much black

Black from head to toe is always stylish, stylish and easy to coordinate. It makes packing a breeze and allows you to have a smaller wardrobe. But it can also leak life into your skin, making you look older. Since black is such a big part of many women’s wardrobes, here are a few tips to make it even more flattering:

  • To wear a flattering colorful scarf next to your face.
  • Wear a hunting or scoop neckline so the black isn’t too close to your face
  • Power up your makeup (think brighter lipstick and more eyeshadow) to balance out the black.
  • Wear colorful earrings and/or necklaces in colors that make you proud.
  • Wear black from the waist down and cool colors on the top.

3. Avoid wearing large size

The aesthetics of many brands are big and loose. It’s a popular look that’s very casual but hard to get right. Choose loose but not overwhelming pieces. Try to wear the larger size on only one half of your body at a time. Voluminous tunics combined with oversized trousers can make you look like you’re trying to hide something. Opt for an oversized top and slim-fit bottoms. Or a tight top and oversized pants. Part of your body silhouette needs to be visible, or you risk looking bigger and older than you are.

4. Outdated glasses

If your glasses are old, you will look older. check out how to choose the best frames Frame shapes for your face here change slowly, but if you haven’t updated yours in a few years, they may be getting you old. When it comes to eyeglasses, very few rimless glasses make you look older. Frames actually help to cover under eye wrinkles and camouflage dark circles. Choose a modern frame that makes a fun statement.

Here are the glasses I use daily. They are expensive but worth the investment.

If you want to update your frameworks, here are a few great vendors:

5. Wrong underwear

No one likes panty lines, so make sure your underwear sits smooth against your skin. Thongs are not very comfortable, so I gave up on them years ago. It now falls into the “life is too short” category for me, so I’ve switched to invisible panties that are either laser cut or have very thin lace that don’t show through under your pants. These my current favorites

The wrong bra can make your clothes look lumpy and your breasts droop. Get a professional bra rehearsal and make sure your clothes come to life to hang neatly. Bras that come in will leave a bulge. Loose ones don’t provide support and visible bra straps give poor fit. I’ve written a few posts about the following most comfortable bras that are highly recommended by the AWSL community:

6. Outdated trends

Herein lies the problem with trends. They change quickly, so if you’re wearing outdated trends, you’ll look out of touch and older. It’s better to invest in styles that pay homage to the current and add a modern twist to your look. Outdated jeans make you look uninterested, so be mindful of current shapes and jeans washes.

At least twice a week, I try to share how I properly style the latest trends, or try a dressing room diary from some of your favorite retailers like Talbots, J. Jill, Nordstrom. and more. Below you can dive into the three categories I have with all of my recent posts:

8. Tights That Make You Look Bigger Than You Are

The clear tube is making a comeback, but beware of tan or beige tones that cover your skin too much. Many women are not comfortable with bare legs, so try self-tanning or opt for opaque tights or very sheer black, navy, or nude tights. Footless tights and leggings will also work instead of pantyhose.

If you decide to go the self-tanning route, I’ve rounded up the best ones along with the best leg makeup. this post for you.

9. Too many pairings

Coco Chanel’s famous quote “Look in the mirror and take something off before you leave the house”. The truth is, too many statement accessories can age you. Matching accessories can do the same. Spoil your jewelry sets. Do not wear matching earrings, necklaces and bracelets. Many women love the bohemian aesthetic and believe in the saying “more is more”. This is a personal taste, so wear what makes you feel safe. If you can pull off the full accessories, go and enjoy.
