Think about how you felt when you visited your favorite retail store. You have a great experience, don’t you? It’s all beautiful and beautiful, isn’t it? True! You deserve this experience every time you step into your closet! So I came up with a plan to help ALL of us! On this day in our age, we have neither the time nor the patience to get messy! So get out your pen and paper and take some notes – so we can have a more organized and trendy life!

Tip #1: Clean Up Your Closet Space…Start From Scratch

Sometimes it’s better to start with a blank page. For example, cleaning out of your closet it may be a “project” but believe me, it’s worth it! First, clean up your bedroom or the area where you will place items from your closet.

Carefully remove items from your closet and make piles. If you really want to be “dare”, start taking the pieces apart at this early stage to save time. For example, a pile of shirts, blouses, skirts, pants, jeans, shoes, boots, etc. do it. This will allow you to see what’s in your closet!

Tip #2: To hold or not to hold… that is the question!

Now you know what not to wear this month, this season, or even in this lifetime! So let’s be honest with ourselves and let it go! Honestly, go through all your clothes (and shoes) and keep ONLY the items you’re going to wear! Apart from that, you keep unnecessary pounds. Weights definitely do nothing but make us weight! Also, consider giving away or even selling your items! You want to be free to express yourself through fashion and be open to innovations!!!

Tip #3: Build and Organize Your Strategy!

This is the part where you should seriously consider who you are and your life. Are you someone who needs things arranged by color? Or are you someone who needs the occasional organized items? What is easier for you? Think about your daily activities. Waking up, exercising, doing yoga, going to a meeting, hanging out, or attending a function. All activities are important and you must make wise fashion decisions.

With that in mind, let’s organize your space according to your needs. I personally like to organize my wardrobe by occasion – lingerie, sports equipment, home wear, street wear, meeting wear, after 5pm, cocktail parties and galas. Within each section, I organize them by color. It lets me pick and choose wisely, and it makes it so much easier when laundry day comes!

Tip #4: It’s Time to Place Back…in order!

Before putting anything back, make sure your hangers are working properly and that items are properly hung. Properly! Worst of all, emptying a closet is simply putting things back in an untidy manner! If you need new hangers as most of your items are dry cleaned or on wire hangers, get hangers that are right for you! Don’t waste time putting clothes back on broken, unstable hangers! It will defeat the purpose of having a functional closet! Also, are you organized? I hope you did!

Tip #5: Something Extra, Something!

Therefore, when creating a functional and stylish wardrobe, “What else can make this place great!” It is very important to think. If you have the space, consider an ottoman or a comfy chair.

Tip #6: Fragrance Products

Ahhhhh! There’s nothing like a cupboard that smells delicious! You want a fresh, clean space that welcomes you every time you step inside! Store your dirty laundry in a covered basket to prevent bad odours. If you can, move your dirty laundry basket away from your clean clothes! Remember, fabrics absorb odors! I like add-ons and even timed air fresheners. Some people swear by sachets and oil scents. Whatever suits your taste! Please make sure your closet doesn’t smell like sweaty socks or worse!

Tip #7: Don’t Lose This Feeling of Love!

Now that you’ve created your own functional and stylish space, do you and me a favor and keep it that way! Don’t lose that loving feeling that you are in cloud nine one day and then go back to living crazy because of your new and regular fashionista life! Organization in life allows you to focus on other things. Important stuff! Make your closet one of your “go to” places where you can step back and feel good! You’ll thank me later!
