Most people don’t realize it, but I was a bride-to-be in 2013. Although my wedding plans never came to fruition, the wedding planning experience was one I will never forget. One of the unforgettable experiences was shopping for wedding dresses and overcoming my fear of plus size wedding dresses.

Although I have experience dress shopping for prom he was decent, the truth is .. I settled down. My size options were limited, I had no personal style, and I felt a lot of pressure to choose something just to save time. With all that being said, how could I resist the thought of repeating this process for a more substantial dress?

Invite ONLY supportive loved ones and leave the nagging ones at home.

  1. I WILL NOT LIVE THAT EMOTIONAL MOMENT

..and the truth is, you probably won’t. We’ve all seen reruns of “Say Yes to the Dress” and are so accustomed to brides that their families are moved when they find the “dress”. When I found a dress that my mom and I loved so much, I wasn’t so sure about it as neither of us shed a tear.

You don’t need to be overly emotional to have a great shopping experience. It is the overall experience that will create lifelong memories.

3. ____ MY DRESS DID NOT LIKE

I’d be lying if I said that although I was lucky enough to share my love for the dress my mother chose, I would still have chosen it if she hadn’t approved of it. The approval of family and friends is understandable.

Be open and communicate your feelings to your counselor. They are there to defend you! You always have the option to experiment with accessories to show your dress in a different light. If they truly love you, they will support anything that lights you up!

4. I CAN’T FIND MY DRESS

Budget! Budget! Budget! Set a reasonable value budget for wedding dress and stick to it! Do not pull to try on dresses that are beyond your financial power. If you do, you risk falling in love with a dress you will never have.
