3.30 In summary, I struggle with dressing in layers for the summer. I like to wear wide-leg pants and I need something thinner on the top to balance my big hips and legs.

But I’ve changed shape since menopause. I was a pear; small chested, slender shoulders and wide hips. However, now my belly is bigger and so are my arms. My formerly narrow shoulders are now in line with my hips (although my bust is still smaller than my hips). The larger arms seem to stabilize the hips, which confused me trying to figure out what new shape I was getting into.

I also don’t know which type of cardigan would suit me. I have big arms, so I’m not sure if I should wear a classic crew neck cardigan because sticky sleeves look awful. I’m thinking of buying a cream-colored shorter jacket that goes well with dark pants, but I don’t like boxed jackets that are in vogue these days, and I think something more shapely would look better. However, I do not believe that long jackets look good with wide-leg or palazzo trousers when you have prominent hips and a small chest.

My biggest style issue is how to dress up a bigger body than before!

8.31 I am now a curvy size 14-16. I’m more comfortable in black and dark colors and stretchy clothing, but I don’t feel very well; I don’t like dressing up and shopping. I’ve come to accept that getting a larger size would be more comfortable and even flattering, but this is depressing. To compound this challenge, I started a business this year with a sleek, casual dress code of “pale, neutral colors like white, beige, linen and sand, and sage and olive green.” I like green, which is great, but wearing pale colors makes me uncomfortable.

I’m afraid of getting dirty but more than that, I feel like a Michelin man! Every spare tire, bump and bump pops up and I feel huge. I can’t wait to get home and hide in my leggings and oversized sweater.
