10 Ways to Look More Modern Over 50

[ad_1]

Happy Thursday ladies. Returning from vacation brought some technical difficulties, so I’m happy to be back! Today I’m sharing some of my thoughts on looking modern because it’s my preferred style and it could be yours too. Here are 10 ways to look more modern over 50 because if you’re like me, you want to look fresh and current, not outdated.

Looking stylish and modern over 50 has nothing to do with your budget and your fashion choices. When we appear current, we appear more alive, which gives us visibility in a society that often ignores our demographics.

Updated Haircut

Your hairstyle should work just as your hair is currently, i.e. in the middle of life. I’ve been involved in the experience of thinning many women over 50, newer products, and an updated style that will add volume for camouflage where it’s thin. Holding it for long can feel safe, but the length drags it down, making it harder to cover the thinning areas on your scalp. Talk to your stylist about light layers or research coats and hairpieces that look great these days.

If you have worn the same cut for 10-20 years, probably update time. Styled into a pixie or flowing off your shoulders, gray or colored, it’s essential to keep your hair end-to-end, so be aware of new products and try them out.

Classic Styles

There’s nothing I love more than building a wardrobe around classic pieces. But the classics of the past can start to look old, so watch out for changing shapes. If retro isn’t your thing, pay attention to collars, shoulder proportions, and the length of blazers, as these are outdated and the “classics” will change with them. The boyfriend blazer has been popular for the past few years, as have knit jackets that look more up-to-date than the all-straight traditional shape.

underwear

By our 50s, our skin has become more lax and gravity is shifting everything south. More than ever, we need to rely on our underwear to keep everything smooth under our clothes. Shapewear may not be behind the wheel, but know that there are many new brands that offer comfort and support without feeling overwhelmed.

Get a professional bra done annually to make sure the “girls” are in the right place. This can take years off your figure and take weight off your shape. Choose undergarments according to your own skin tone (nudes may vary) so they are invisible under all your clothes. A visible panty line is never flattering and can be avoided by: disappearing edge panties or these lace shorts I just discovered that it is incredibly comfortable and completely invisible.

Can floral prints look outdated? In a word, yes, like the oversized ones. Small, all-over prints have been on trend for a few seasons, but these will quickly look old fashioned, so follow the fashion direction. Patterns are most flattering when their size correlates with the size of your facial features. Choose them in moderation and style them with simple shaped accessories.

simplify

Sleek silhouettes in plain fabrics tend to look more modern no matter the color. Worn with a crisp white shirt or cashmere sweater, a classic pencil skirt is a contemporary look that requires very little embellishment. A plain tee with jeans and a blazer is another look that hangs in many of us’ closets. When in doubt, turn the volume down and reach for contemporary shapes.
